The Architecture of Truth: Neuro-Symbolic iCommerce

From probabilistic chatbots to deterministic agents: how NSR makes commerce operate on truth, not guesses.

TL;DR

SaaS chains and probabilistic chatbots create fragile operations. StateSet built a neuro-symbolic stack where LLMs propose, logic proves, and orchestration executes. The result: agents that cannot break your rules and a business that runs on truth, not guesses.

From patchwork to probability traps

Stitching Zendesk to Shopify to NetSuite to a 3PL was supposed to be automation. Instead, operators became firefighters, trapped in sync errors and backlog triage. Early GenAI promised relief but delivered chatbots that guess. In commerce, a guess is a double refund or a wrong SKU to a VIP. Probability is a liability.

The architecture of truth

We needed an operating model that makes agents follow rules before they act. Neuro-Symbolic Reasoning (NSR) fuses the right brain of language with the left brain of logic, then forces a recursive loop:

  • The neural layer: LLM understands messy language, sentiment, and intent.
  • The symbolic layer: Logic enforces constraints, math, policy, and time.
  • The recursive loop: Proposal → Verification → Revision. Bad plans are rejected with counterexamples until they comply.

This turns AI from a creative intern into a deterministic operator. Plans are correct by construction before they ever touch production systems.

NSR in action: correct-by-construction

The trigger

The LLM proposes a plan from a customer request (for example, swap subscription item X for Y).

The proof

NSR validates against brand logic: inventory, margin thresholds, fraud heuristics, attempt history. Violations return counterexamples for revision.

The execution

Only proven plans reach Temporal, which executes state changes across Shopify, NetSuite, 3PLs, and payments with retries and audit trails.

NSR is the conscience; Temporal is the muscle. Together they ensure agents cannot violate policy, margin thresholds, or inventory truth.

The three pillars of iCommerce autonomy

The CX Decision Engine

Tickets become logic problems, not conversations. Agents validate LTV, fraud signals, policy windows, and resolve 40-70% with zero human intervention.

Safe tool use

Every tool call is wrapped in symbolic guardrails. Double refunds, duplicate shipments, and master record overwrites are mathematically blocked before they happen.

Merchant-controlled playbooks

Rules like "auto-refund under $50 once per quarter" compile into the symbolic layer. No prompt engineering required; your policy becomes code the agents must obey.

The ground truth layer

We are building a logic substrate for the mid-market economy. An autonomous layer that learns from millions of orders but obeys your brand rules: workers → agents, probabilistic → deterministic, eCommerce → iCommerce.

The language tech exists. The logic tech exists. StateSet put them together so commerce can finally run on truth.

Run on truth, not guesses

Deploy NSR-backed agents that propose, prove, and execute within your rules across checkout, support, and operations.
